Program Overview
The Village of Lisle entered into an extension of its residential service agreement with Allied Waste for refuse, recycling and yard waste service in March 2008. The LEAP Curbside Refuse and Recycling Program Guide is available at Village Hall or download.

Refuse, recycling and yard waste are all collected once a week on Tuesday. Different trucks collect the three types of materials, so they are not collected at the same times. Route schedules for trucks may vary weekly.

Residents need to purchase refuse and yard waste stickers to place on the respective containers and/or bags for collection. Rather than charging a monthly flat fee, the pay-per-bag system allows residents to only pay for what they throw away.

Allied Waste Customer Service can be reached at (630) 964-3232.

If you have specific questions or would like to file a complaint, please contact the Village Manager’s office at 630-271-4125.

Collection Day
All residential refuse, recycling and yard waste are collected on Tuesday each week.

Holiday Collection: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If any of these holidays fall on a Monday or Tuesday, all refuse, recycling and yard waste will be collected on Wednesday of the same week.

Hours of Collection
Collection begins at 6:00 a.m. and ends by 7:00 p.m. Residents must have their materials at the curb by that time. Allied will not return to collect late set-outs. Residents should not set materials out before 6:00 p.m. the night before collection.

Refuse Bags & Stickers
Refuse containers may be a maximum of 33 gallons in size and should not exceed 50 pounds in weight. There is no limit to the number of refuse containers or bags that will be collected, provided that each container or bag has one (1) refuse sticker attached.

Large Items—any item that is too large to fit in a 33-gallon container or bag. Each large item requires one (1) refuse sticker attached to it.

Carpeting—must be no larger than 4 feet in length and bundle should not exceed 18 inches in diameter. Each bundle requires one (1) refuse sticker attached to it. Replacing more than one (1) room of carpeting may require a special pick-up, please contact Allied Waste before placing large amounts of carpeting out at the curb.

Appliances—items such as a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, hot water heater, washing machine, freezer, and other large household appliances, need to be collected separately from your regular refuse and require one (1) refuse sticker per item. Please contact Allied Waste to make arrangements for the items to be collected.

Special Pick-Ups—residents may arrange for collection of large amounts (exceeding 1 cubic yard—roughly 9 square feet) of refuse or debris, such as “spring clean-up,” move-in, or move-out rubbish. Contact Allied Waste directly for an estimate of charges and scheduling. Dumpster rental is also available.

Toter Service
Toter service is available if residents prefer an alternative to purchasing refuse and yard waste stickers. Residents should contact Allied Waste directly to arrange for toter service for a monthly rate that includes the rental of the toter and the cost of disposal. Allied will bill the resident directly every two (2) months for this service. Toters are also available for yard waste collection.

Yard Waste
The Village of Lisle encourages residents to look for alternatives to bagging yard waste for collection. Residents who would like to reduce or avoid yard waste collection costs can use mulching mowers, leaf shedders or back yard compost piles.

However, there a number of service options for residents to dispose of yard waste under this program-

Bags: Yard waste must be placed in a 30-gallon Kraft paper yard waste bag and have yard waste sticker attached.

Yard Waste Can: Use any old or new 33-gallon refuse can with two-handles. Place Yard Waste decal (available at Village Hall) on the can, along with a yard waste sticker when can is placed at the curb.

Bundles: Bundle twigs and sticks with biodegradable fiber twine in a bundle measuring four (4) feet in length and 18 inches in diameter, with one (1) yard waste sticker attached.

Recycling
The Village has an extensive single-stream recycling program. Residents can combine aluminum, tin, glass, plastic, paper products and cardboard into a single-stream, 18-gallon curbside recycling bin. Additional recycling bins may be purchased at Village Hall.

Recycling bin lids and wheel kits are available for purchase at the Village Hall.

Recyclable Materials
Commingled materials: aluminum and tin cans, glass bottle and jars, paper (newspaper, magazines, telephone directories, brown paper bags, cereal boxes, junk mail, corrugated cardboard), plastic (milk jugs, 2-liter soda bottles, water bottles, laundry detergent and shampoo bottles).

All recyclable materials should be rinsed free of visible food debris. Please refrain from placing recyclable materials in plastic bags inside the recycling bin.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Hazardous materials, such as oil-based paints, insecticides, herbicides, fluorescent light bulbs/ballasts, cleaning solvents, thermostats, etc., cannot be disposed via the regular refuse collection.

There is a continuous HHW collection facility located behind Naperville Fire Station #4, 1971 Brookdale Road and is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (except for holiday weekends).

For more information on HHW collection, residents can visit the DuPage County website or the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency website. Special collections throughout DuPage County during the year will also be posted on this website.

Christmas Tree Collection
Christmas trees are collected for recycling during the first two (2) full weeks in January at no charge.
