Has your home had the misfortune of sanitary sewer water backing up into the basement? It's a disgusting mess to clean up and an experience that no one wishes to repeat. Floor drain plugs, standpipes and overhead sewers are possible prevention strategies.
The Village of Lisle offers a cost-share program for Village sewer customers who have experienced sanitary sewer backups and wish to convert to overhead sewers. Of those who have participated to date, conversion costs have ranged from $1,200 - $6,000, but most were in the $3,000- $5,000 range. The cost-share program works as follows:
- The Village of Lisle will cost share with the homeowners on a 50-50 basis the first $2,000 of the cost of installing an overhead sewer, up to a maxiumum of $1,000.
- Above that amount, DuPage County will cost share on a 50-50 basis up to the next $5,000 in total costs. The property owner pays all the costs exceeding a total cost of $6,000.
To qualify, an application must be pre-approved prior to starting the work. Approval is on a first-come, first-serve basis as long as funds are available. A licensed plumber and a permit from the Community Development Department are required. For information or an application, call the Community Development Department at (630) 271-4107.
