All homes and businesses connected to the village's water system have a water meter. Most water meters in residential settings are located where the water service comes into the house (i.e. basement, crawl space, or utility room). The remotes are usually located near the gas meter on the exterior of the house. Some homes and businesses have meters located in a meter pit outside the house. These types of meters do not have remotes.
Water Billing
The billing of water usage is based on the meter reading. Meters are read using the register located on the outside of the home. Occasionally, the outside register fails and does not record the proper reading. The meter inside the home is the correct reading. When there is a discrepancy between the 2 meters, the inside reading is what is used. The actual water usage based on the inside meter will be the amount of your water bill.
Comparing Your Indoor and Outdoor Meters
In 2017 the Village of Lisle completed a Village-wide water meter change-out program. Most homes have a newer water meter installed with an outside remote that is a solid black oval disc, see picture above, there is no need to compare inside and outside readings. The communication between the remote and the meter is done electronically. If there is a problem with the communication from the meter to the remote, an error code is sent to the electronic reading device. A meter checkup will be scheduled to determine the cause of the difference.
