Parking Tickets
Village of Lisle parking violations are placed on a vehicle at the time of the offense. The fine is due within 10 days from the date of issuance. After 10 days, the fine amount will double and payment is then due within 10 days from the initial due date. At this point, if payment is still not received, the parking violation will be forwarded to a collection agency.
Contesting a Parking Ticket
A parking citation review request may be made in person at the Lisle Police Department, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. You may also submit submit this form or via email. Any individuals wishing to have an administrative hearing (see below) must complete the Hearing Request form at the police department within ten (10) days of receiving their citation.
Contesting an Administrative Tow
Individuals wishing to contest an administrative tow do not need to request a hearing since a date was automatically assigned once the vehicle was towed. A notice is also mailed to the owner/driver of the vehicle.
Contesting a Red Light Camera Ticket
Individuals wishing to contest a Red Light Camera Ticket should follow the instructions listed on the violation notice.
Lisle Administrative Adjudication Hearings
What is an Adjudication Hearing?
An administrative hearing is a civil (not a criminal) proceeding. Cases filed in adjudication are only punishable by fines – not jail sentences. It serves as a quasi-judicial process for adjudicating municipal ordinance violations previously heard in DuPage County Circuit Court. This expedites the process and is more convenient for those who wish to contest a parking ticket or administrative tow fee.
Overview
Under the administrative hearing system, an Administrative Hearing Officer acts as the judge. Hearing Officers, all of whom are experienced attorneys, are required to undergo State mandated training to be professional, fair, and courteous. In Lisle’s Administrative Adjudication process, the following types of cases may be heard:
- Parking tickets
- Administrative Tow fee
- Red Light Camera violations
All hearings are held at the Lisle Village Hall, 925 Burlington Avenue, Lisle, IL 60532. They are on the third Wednesday of every month.
Individuals wishing to contest a parking ticket and have a hearing must complete the Hearing Request form at the police department within ten (10) days of receiving a citation.
Individuals wishing to contest an administrative tow do not need to request a hearing since a date was automatically assigned once the vehicle was towed. A notice is also mailed to the owner/driver of the vehicle.
Individuals wishing to contest a Red Light Camera Ticket should follow the instructions listed on the violation notice.
The Hearing
It is recommended that you arrive a few minutes early. Upon entering the hearing room, you must check in with the clerk and sit down until the case is called.
Audio and video equipment, food, drink, and chewing gum are not allowed in the hearing room. Disruptive people will be removed from the hearing room and risk having their cases heard without them as well as incurring any additional criminal charges being placed against them as appropriate.
When the hearing begins, the Hearing Officer makes an opening statement and will provide an overview along with the order in which cases are called. When a case is called, the individual should acknowledge it and step forward in front of the Hearing Officer. The hearing begins immediately, and individuals are allowed to present testimony and evidence. All live testimony is given under oath and recorded.
The ticket or complaint may be enough evidence to prove or disprove the Village’s case. By law, the Village representative who issued the ticket, complaint, or notice of violation is not required to appear at the hearing.
The ticket or complaint will properly cite several pieces of information, including the offenses' date, time, and location, the law/ordinance violated, and the identity of the person named.
You have the right to tell the Hearing Officer your side of the story. This includes using witnesses and physical evidence such as bills, receipts, or photos that deal specifically with the violation before the court. The Village may retain all documents presented as evidence. There are no public defenders and no right to a jury in administrative hearings.
The Decision
After both sides have been heard, the Hearing Officer makes a determination based on the evidence presented. If the Hearing Officer finds an individual liable, all fines, penalties, and costs will be imposed according to the guidelines set for the Village's Municipal Code.
Anyone who disagrees with the Hearing Officer's decision has 35 days to appeal the decision to the Circuit Court of DuPage County in Wheaton, Illinois via a judicial review.
Questions about the Village Ordinance Adjudication process can be directed to the Village of Lisle Traffic Compliance Administrator at 630-271-4200.
If you were found liable at the hearing (or you did not attend the hearing and were found liable), a notice explaining the amount owed and how to pay it will be mailed to you.
