Zimmerman Pine Moth

If you have noticed brown and dying pine trees within the village, it is most likely do to the Zimmerman Pine Moth. The moth infects mostly Austrian Pines, but Scotch and Ponderosa Pines are also susceptible.

Facts

  • Larvae of the Zimmerman Pine Moth damage trees by tunneling under the bark, making gaping wounds.
  • Pale yellow, popcorn-like masses of sap occur at wounds.
  • Insecticide spraying applied by licensed applicators is best applied in April and again in August.
