Water Meter Replacement Program

In the Summer 2016, the Village of Lisle will be starting the third year of the Water Meter Replacement Program, which will eventually replace approximately 5,000 old meters which have been in service for more than 25 years and have reached the end of their expected life. The new meters have an expected 20-year service life, which will ensure accurate readings and billing. There is no cost to the homeowner for the meter replacement.

The existing water meters utilize moving internal parts to measure water consumption. These parts wear out over time, resulting in reduced accuracy. The new Sensus iPerl water meters have no moving parts and provide consistent accuracy over the life of the meter.

The Village has contracted with Water Services Company of Elgin, IL a licensed, bonded and insured plumbing contractor, to complete the installation of the new meters and remote devices. Residents will receive a notification letter from Water Services Company on behalf of the Village of Lisle. It is required that an adult 18 years or older be present for the installation. Water Services will require access to each residence and business because the meters are typically located in the basement, crawl space or utility closet.

The Village of Lisle has numerous Sensus products throughout the metering system. Sensus has been the Village of Lisle's meter supplier for many years. In 2012, the Public Works Department started installing iPerl water meters prior to the replacement program, installing more than 650 of these meters. To date, no major problems have occurred. The Sensus iPerl water meters used in the Village's Water Meter Replacement Program use a different technology than another manufacturer who had been using a meter with a critical design flaw.
