Smart Meters

Beginning August 22, ComEd or Corix, a ComEd-authorized contractor in uniform and valid ID, will begin installing Smart Meters in Lisle, Monday - Saturday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. ComEd will contact customers via phone to advise when a residence is scheduled for installation. The week of install, customers are asked to ensure there is nothing blocking access to the meter. If a customer normally has to be present to allow a meter reader access to the meter, they will need to be present to switch the meter. The day of the meter install, the meter installer will knock on the door before starting work. Installation will take approximately 10 minutes with a brief interruption of electric service. Customers that operate life support medical equipment at home or have questions regarding the new electric meter installation should contact ComEd at 866-368-8326.

Residential customers with Smart Meters have access to online energy-management tools, high-usage alerts and weekly reports summarizing daily electricity usage to assist customers in managing electric bills. ComEd anticipates that Smart Meters will be installed in all homes and businesses throughout the ComEd service territory by the end of 2018.

To help customers better understand the benefits of a Smart Meter, Com Ed will conduct a Smart Meter educational presentation at the Lisle Train Station on August 9 from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. and on August 16 from 6 a.m. - 10 a.m.

ComEd customers who would prefer to temporarily defer installation of a Smart Meter should contact ComEd at 866-368-8326. Customers that defer installation will be charged a $21.53 per month fee until a Smart Meter is installed.

Information on the upcoming Smart Meter deployment was included in customers’ ComEd bill 60-days prior to installation and then again a few days before the electric meter is replaced.
