Tips & Guidance for Trick-Or-Treating on Halloween

Trick-or-treating takes place in Lisle on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In accordance with the guidelines provided by the CDC, participants are asked to follow these trick-or-treating guidelines:

  • Homes participating in trick-or-treating should turn ON their front porch/outdoor lights. If your home will not be handing out candy, please turn OFF your lights.
  • Display a sign indicating whether you are participating in trick-or-treating. For your convenience, the Village has downloadable signs that can be printed and displayed in windows, doors or other visible areas that will let trick-or-treaters know whether you are participating. Signs can also be picked up at Village Hall, 925 Burlington Avenue.
  • Do not participate in trick-or-treating if you, or a member of your group, feels unwell, is awaiting COVID-19 test results, or have been exposed to COVID-19.
  • Trick-or-treating groups should be kept small and individuals are encouraged to wear face coverings at all times.
  • Participants should take extra precautions to maintain social distance, ensure masks are properly fit, avoid touching of the face (mouth/nose/eyes), and use hand sanitizer often.
  • Maintain a safe distance from other groups and wait to approach a house until the previous group has left.
  • If you are handing out candy, wear a face mask and gloves and only hand out prepackaged treats.
  • Considering using a table at the end of your driveway to hand out candy or have goodie bags available as this will help create some physical distance between you and trick-or-treaters.
  • Pass out candy individually instead of inviting children to take a treat from a bowl.

  • Adults, as a reminder the use of alcohol or drugs can impair judgement and result in increased risky behavior.

  • After the holiday remember to practice good dental hygiene.

Not everyone will feel comfortable with trick-or-treating this year. Please keep in mind that, due to the nature of the pandemic, guidelines are subject to change as the State of Illinois or DuPage County may issue more restrictive guidelines. Updates to guidelines will be communicated through the Village’s website and social media accounts.

The Village wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Halloween!
