After careful review of the Village’s property maintenance code, Village staff is recommending an update to these standards through the adoption of the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code. The regulations are set forth in Title 4, Chapter 11, of the Village Code, which adopts the 1996 Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA) Property Maintenance Code. Replacing the existing BOCA code with the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code will ensure compatibility and coordination with the Village’s building codes (which are the 2015 International Codes). The International Codes were developed in 2000 as the successor to BOCA, when the development and maintenance of BOCA codes was discontinued.
Local amendments to the BOCA code, which allowed the Village to make refinements to BOCA standards, will also be proposed for either elimination or revision in this update effort. The Village Board is scheduled to consider these items at a Village Board Workshop to be held on July 9, 2018. Materials related to the proposed changes, including a copy of official notification sent to the Illinois Capital Development Board, a staff summary of the proposed changes, and a red-lined version of the Village Code can be reviewed at the link below.
