Leaves

Leaf Pickup Program

The 2016 Leaf Pickup Program runs from October 17 through November 18 and is FREE! to single family homes within Lisle's corporate limits. It is important to follow program guidelines to ensure leaves are collected. Rake loose leaves (no grass or landscaping) to the parkway as close to the curb as possible by 7 a.m. each Monday morning during this time. Public Works crews will collect the leaves once a week, weather permitting. After the week of November 18, place leaves in yard-waste bags or cans and attach a yard-waste sticker to each container. Republic Services, the Village’s waste hauler, will collect yard waste through December 6, 2016. To learn more, click here.

Pumpkins

Fall Recycling Options

A Document Destruction Event will be held on Saturday, October 29 from 9 a.m. - noon in the Village Hall Parking Lot. Documents should be brought to the event in either paper shopping bags or cardboard boxes and there is a limit of two file-size/copier paper boxes or three paper shopping bags per vehicle.  Paper clips and staples do not need to be removed, but please remove binders and metal clips. Documents will be cross-cut shredded on site and then recycled.  To learn more, click here.

A Pumpkin Composing Event will take place on November 5 from 9 a.m. - noon at 4930 Route 53 (next to Lisle Lanes). As pumpkins are rich with nutrients and contain 90% water, composting them enriches the soil. Please clean pumpkins and remove candles, yarn, stickers or other decorations prior to drop-off. To learn more, click here.

The Monthly Electronics Recycling Events will continue to run on the third Saturday of each month (October 15) from 8 a.m. - noon in the Village Hall Parking Lot. TVs will be accepted for a small fee. To review a list of items accepted, click here.

Unwanted medications can present health hazards to people and pets. But flushing these medications down the drain or throwing them out in the trash harms the environment. Make your home and the environment safer by responsibly disposing of unwanted medications and needle syringes. Deposit them in the RxBox collection container located in Lisle Police Department Lobby (5040 Route 53). Watch a short video to learn how to package them for safe disposal by clicking here

Milkweed

PrairieWalk Pond Certified as Monarch Butterfly Waystation

Monarch butterflies are declining due to loss of habitat and the use of herbicides. PrairieWalk Pond has just been certified as a Monarch Butterfly Waystation (#14864) due to its abundance of milkweed and nectar producing plants, well drained soil, sunny habitat and providing shelter from predators. The site will be listed in the international Monarch Butterfly Waystation Registry. Just another way "The Arboretum Village" is helping nature thrive. To learn more, click here.
